De verhaallijn voor de langverwachte film Gravity van Alfonso Cuarón is bekend gemaakt.
" Sandra Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney) in command of his last flight before retiring. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone–tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space. "
Alfonso Cuarón
Er was dit jaar veel te doen geweest rondom het filmproject van de Mexicaanse regisseur. Cuarón die bekend wierf met de arthousehit Y tu mamá también en Children of Men sukkelde lange tijd met het rondkrijgen van de casting. Oorspronkelijk zouden Robert Downey jr. en Angelina Jolie de hoofdrollen vertolken in de sci-fi thriller maar ging dit niet door vanwege drukke werkschema's. Uiteindelijk verving George Clooney de opgestapte Downey jr. en nam Sandra Bullock de plaats in van de vertrokken Jolie.
Alsof dat nog niet genoeg stak Guillermo Del Toro de loftrompet uit over zijn maatje Cuarón, door zijn verwachtingen en enthousiasme uit te spreken over Gravity :
"What is incredible about what they did is, they talked to David Fincher, they talked to Jim Cameron, I connected Jim and Alfonso for that. And what Alfonso is trying, is so insane. And Jim said, well, look, you’re about five years into the future…it’s too early to try anything that crazy. And they did it!"

Framework bekend van onder andere Avatar en Children of Men zal de special effects verzorgen. De verwachtingen zijn dus op zijn minst hooggespannen. Degene die de filmproductie wil zien zal het geduld nog even moeten bewaren. Gravity verschijnt pas vanaf 17 januari 2013 in ons land.
